origin story…

first of all, i grew up in the military and went to seven schools by the time i graduated from high school.  two were in france, one was in germany.

second, over the course of the following 20 years or so, i traveled all over the world, attended 17 years of college, ended up with a phd, then taught college for a while.

third, along the way i married the woman of my dreams, we had two wonderful kids, and i became a stay-at-home dad for another 20 years.  the kids are grown, we are retired, and we have the freedom to pursue our interests.  (for bonus fun pictures visit the fun pics link).

trippy boards by dan started in early 2020, is located in san antonio, tx and grew out of a desire to learn a new skill and work with wood. a move in early 2020 provided space to set up a wood workshop in the garage and then…well… covid…and there was plenty of time to work on cutting boards.  because of their unique beauty and the ability to fool the eye, i focus primarily on end-grain cutting boards that exhibit three dimensional effects such as tumbling blocks, basket weaves, zig-zags, and what i’m calling attic window (hence, trippy!).

because i’m retired and periodically leave town to visit family/friends, and go places, i don’t work at this full time.  therefore, i don’t handle large volumes and there may be some wait times on orders.  please browse the images on this site for examples of my work.  and…welcome!
